The South and Central Chapter is a satellite branch of the Autism Society of Newfoundland and Labrador. We are located on 7 High Street, Town Square Mall in Grand Falls-Windsor, NL. Our goal is to provide our members with education, materials, and services to assist in care giving; to establish linkages with health care providers and public services in aiding caregivers; and most importantly; to provide an open forum of mutual support and understanding for parents, relatives, and friends, of persons who are affected by ASD.
Our Chapter began as a parent support group in the early 90’s and grew to become an official chapter of ASNL in 2006. In 2007 we were the first area to open its doors to a new office and began to work on providing direct programs and services to families in over 130 communities across the south and central region of our province. We have since recognized the gap in our programs and services being provided in our region, and are working to alleviate it, by adding an increase to our focus on outreach
We host a Parent 2 Parent evening once per month. We also hold several advocacy, educational and fundraising events across our region to help promote education and understanding of autism. We have an interactive program room onsite, along with a resource center, and Targa Technical Centre. We pride ourselves on doing everything we can to assist families and individuals living with autism spectrum disorder.
On staff we have, one full time Regional Assistant Manager and three part time assistants through supported employment. We work under a regional board who act as a liaison to the Provincial Board of Directors for ASNL.
