Autism Society Campaign reaches $1.3 Million dollars with $100,000 gift from Hotel and Restaurant Workers Union, Local 779 and Labourers' International Union, Local 1208 and Labrador Catering/East Coast Catering & Friends

Buchan's, December 10, 2005: The Shamrock Farm Capital Campaign has reached $1.3 million dollars in a $1.5 million dollar campaign.

The Autism Society of Newfoundland and Labrador (ASNL) launched a capital campaign in October 2003 led by Campaign Chair: Mrs. Elaine Dobbin. “This gift brings us another step closer to meeting our goal,” says Elaine Dobbin, Campaign Chair. “We are thrilled with the support we have received from the private sector and especially these groups who represent hundreds of workers across the province”. Mr. Pat McCormick, Business Manager says “Unions are people that care and share and today we are pleased to support this worthwhile endeavour”. Patrick O'Callaghan, owner East Coast Catering says “We are pleased to work with our local unions and join together to make a difference for those living with Autism in Newfoundland and Labrador”.

The Shamrock Farm Centre for Autism is located in Pippy Park and will offer an innovative mix of vocational and life skills training for individuals living with autism in this province. This centre will be fully equipped with the space and staff to provide crucial communication, behavioural and social skills and will include a working farm where individuals can learn agricultural and landscaping skills. This provincial centre will offer programming for individuals of all ages. The centre will be a hub of excellence in Atlantic Canada, offering professional training for parents and support workers as well as providing a unique opportunity for research into the cause and treatment of autism.

The Autism Society of Newfoundland and Labrador (ASNL) is a province-wide, nonprofit, charitable organization dedicated to fostering, lifelong, community-based supports and services, and the promotion of acceptance, independence, productivity, and opportunities for inclusion in all facets of life for persons with autism spectrum disorders and their families.
